Schwitzer's Gourmet-Restaurant

Classic Cuisine, Contemporary · ★ Michelin

€€€€

In the chic little fine dining restaurant of Schwitzer's Hotel am Park, the open kitchen means you can watch chef-patron Cédric Schwitzer and team at work. Using excellent ingredients, they craft a four- or six-course "culinary journey. What makes a meal here special is that the menu and the course of the evening are modeled on a journey from Karlsruhe/Waldbronn to Paris. You are presented with your "tickets" in an envelope, with descriptions of the dishes, which symbolise the journey to Paris. Recipes grounded in the classics are given a successful modern makeover – precisely and elaborately

Erbprinz

Classic Cuisine, International · ★ Michelin

Hotel Erbprinz is definitely something of an institution in the Karlsruhe area – and not only for the many conference participants who stay here. This is a foodie hotspot that prides itself on its stylish interior and excellent cuisine – the domain of Ralph Knebel and team. They cook classic dishes that draw on international influences, with an emphasis on seasonal produce. The quality of the ingredients is outstanding. There is a set menu comprising five to seven courses that can also be ordered à la carte. Incidentally, Ralph Knebel's wife, Jasmina, is also on board, producing fabulous desse

This modern restaurant is housed in a pretty villa dating back to 1816. The Hartmaier family and their team have been serving up good food here for many years. The menu is wide-ranging, characterised by seasonal, regional and international influences – from Zwiebelrostbraten (steak with onion rings), beans with bacon and roast potatoes to wild-caught Icelandic redfish fillet with pak choi and spinach and ricotta ravioli. At lunchtime, people flock here for the bargain set menu with a choice of starters and mains. The feel of the place is both elegant and more casual, with a lovely leafy terrac

One draw of this restaurant is its beautiful location in the centre of the pretty old town on the Alb River, another is its chic, modern interior. The cuisine is based on high-quality ingredients and ranges from classics such as house-made maultaschen to international specialities such as barbecued octopus and burgers, and not forgetting the various tartare options. The waitstaff are friendly and well trained. In summer, the terrace overlooking the square is a delightful spot where you will be serenaded by the carillon music from the town hall tower.

A good place to come for unpretentious cuisine. The menu ranges from classics such as Wiener schnitzel or Berlin-style calf's liver to a "Gourmet Tradition" section featuring dishes such as saddle and shoulder of venison in pasta sheets, with tenderstem broccoli and an elderberry jus. There is also a selection of vegetarian dishes and a range of delicious desserts. Lovely old wooden floors, wood-panelled walls and pretty decorations make for a charming atmosphere. The verdant terrace is also inviting. Guestrooms are available in the adjoining Erbprinz hotel.

Housed in a charming villa dating back to 1893, this is a thoroughly inviting destination. Whether seated in one of the comfortable dining areas or the light and airy pavilion, you can look forward to ambitious, classic and regional cuisine, presented in the appealing "Villa Lunch" set menu or in the evening the three- to five-course "Feinschmecker-Menü". There is also an à la carte selection featuring dishes such as farm-raised duck with red cabbage and creamed chestnuts, or Dover sole for two. The terrace is especially lovely in summer, and comfortable accommodation is available as well.

Familiar faces in the region, Markus and Britta Nagy are known as ambitious restaurateurs. Here, in their charming half-timbered inn dating back to 1688, they serve regional and Mediterranean-inspired fare. In addition to an à la carte menu, there is a three- to five-course set menu in the evening and the reasonably priced three-course "Eat & Talk" set menu at lunchtime (Tue-Fri). On Friday and Saturday, for dinner, diners choose between two set menus (no à la carte). In winter, the room with a fireplace is cosy; in summer, the lovely terrace beckons.
