Scoundrel

French · ★ Michelin

$$$

Chef/owner Joe Cash's upscale French bistro charms with an elegant dining room with hardwood floors and brick walls, a full-service bar and an engaging staff who make everyone feel well cared for and welcomed. It's the hottest table in town, and reservations are a must, though seats at the bar feel far from a consolation prize. High-quality ingredients are prepared with care and finesse here, where familiar favorites like Caesar salad are leveled up. Roasted half chicken is tender and juicy with a perfectly crispy skin, then topped with gnocchi Parisienne and a moutarde sauce for an extra flou

Little Chango

Latin American · 必比登

There's something uplifting about this cozy neighborhood spot. Maybe it's the cheerful yellow facade or perhaps it's the number they hand you on a playing card after you've ordered at the counter. No matter the reason, Little Chango is a delightful place for casual Latin American fare. Choose from items like arepas with shredded ropa vieja and "lunch boxes" with rice and meat selections. Don't even think about skipping their sides, ranging from mamposteao, or Puerto Rican-style yellow rice and beans, to a bright escabeche with diced avocado, thinly sliced bell peppers and red onion in vinegar

Theirs is a crowd-pleasing menu of wood-fired pizza (perhaps topped with lemon, smoked mozzarella and arugula), impressive pastas (bucatini with summer squash, ricott

Topsoil Restaurant

The name isn't just a playful nod to their inspiration; this restaurant just north of Greenville in Travelers Rest is a veritable showpiece for products sourced from their own 16-acre farm and other nearby farms. There is a relaxed elegance here, with hardwood floors, tall ceilings set with wood beams and wood tables with cushioned chairs. Offering three courses that naturally change with the seasons, guests choose from dishes like seared, meltingly tender pork belly with wild ramp oil and watermelon ponzu sauce to house-made ricotta cavatelli with braised short rib and butter bean in a roaste

Inside, the room has a rustic look and boasts an open kitchen. Headed by Chef Michael Lewis, the menu offers an array of small plates such as fried items, grilled skewers, sashimi, dumplings and buns, as well as smoked meats. The large bar at the center of the room is a convivial meeting place pouring creative cocktails (the Ukiah Oldie is fittingly infused with smoke) and local craft brews are on draft. Those unsure of what to order or without family
