Barbs B Q

Barbecue, American · 必比登

Barbs B Q is run by pitmaster Chuck Charnichart and her small team. Waiting in line for good barbecue is a Texas tradition, and this place, with its hours-long lines is no exception. You'll need to stave off your cravings until the weekend though, as it's only open on Saturday and Sunday. The Lockhart gem's compact menu lists a handful of meats that read classic but have been given a twist, as in the Molotov pork ribs finished with lime zest, giving the tender meat just the right amount of zing. Turkey with a black pepper rub is a total standout, and don't miss the unique sides like green spag

LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue

Barbecue, American · ★ Michelin

LeRoy and Lewis BBQ began as a food truck in 2017 and has since moved into a spacious Garrison Park location. Run by a duo of married couples, the restaurant has a casual, midcentury-inspired feel, with its glazed brick exterior and open, peaked dining area. The menu expands on traditional barbecue, offering a wide range of smoked meats alongside tacos, sandwiches and daily specials, particularly after 5 p.m. While the kitchen explores a variety of cuts and preparations, the approach remains rooted in barbecue, with an emphasis on bold flavors and generous portions. Sides show a more creative

la Barbecue

Barbecue · ★ Michelin

la Barbecue was founded by the late LeAnn Mueller and is now run by her wife, Ali Clem. The large, custom-built pit in the backyard anchors the operation, while the interior is a simple space brightened by bold colors and a country-leaning soundtrack. Lines can build during peak hours, as guests wait to order a range of smoked meats at the counter. Brisket remains a central offering, alongside house-made sausages and pork or beef ribs. Sides and accompaniments, including slaws and pickled items, add some spiciness and contrast to the richness of the meats.

Hestia

Push past the glass door of this restaurant in the heart of downtown and you'll immediately get the drift—quite literally, as wood smoke perfumes the air. This hot spot is all about live fire cooking, as evidenced by the 20-foot hearth in the open kitchen. Contemporary cooking is on display in both the à la carte and chef's tasting menu, and Texas produce and proteins take center stage. From savory to sweet, nearly everything is kissed by the flames or scented with smoke. "Embered" cantaloupe with green tomato and shiso blossoms is an elegant opener; and hearth-dried and blistered tomatoes ove

Olamaie

American, Southern · ★ Michelin

With its white clapboard and black shutters, Olamaie, named for the chef's grandmother, mother and daughter, is a charming spot north of downtown Austin. Consider a cocktail, as their list is interesting and includes a daily punch and fun drinks like the Spaghetti Western martini with Texas olive-oil-washed gin, vodka, cherry tomato-infused dry vermouth and basil eau de vie.Expect Southern cuisine that's been given a contemporary polish, and don't dare miss out on the buttermilk biscuit, served warm and accompanied by whipped honey butter sprinkled with sea salt. Roasted chicken tucked with sp

Distant Relatives

Barbecue · 必比登

Meanwhile Brewing is home to a few food trucks, but Chef Damien Brockway's is the one to beat. It's barbecue, but certainly not your grandaddy's barbecue. Instead, there's more than a hint of new school in this cooking, with the chef's African diaspora inspiration coming through in the menu. There is a stern nose to tail and root to stem ethos here, where you'll find everything from pulled pork and brisket to chicken smoked using pecan wood and mixed hardwood. Classic pork sausage flecked with red pepper flakes impresses with its dialed-in flavor, but it's the chicken with chile vinegar butter

Burnt Bean Co.

Barbecue · 必比登

In the town of Seguin, people start to queue long before doors even open. It’s always been this way for pitmasters Ernest Servantes and Dave Kirkland, both of whom were dueling fixtures and frequent victors at countless barbecue competitions before joining forces in 2021. The industrial space fit with iron beams and exposed brick has seemingly endless seating that does indeed fill up. Everyone is after the same thing: The offered meats – brisket, ribs, sausage – are notable for their tenderness, delicate smokiness, and measured levels of fat. Sides like green beans or firm spears of pickled ok

Briscuits

Barbecue · 必比登

Few things go together as perfectly as biscuits and barbecue, and that's the premise behind this truck from Christopher McGhee and William Spence, located on the Radio Coffee lot. It's popular but they have ordering down pat with a QR code and a call-ahead option that keeps things moving along. Good thing too, as you won't want to wait for a bite of their melt-in-your-mouth brisket and flakey biscuit sandwich with a swoop of smoked strawberry jam thrown in for good measure. Or, try the pork belly with spiced apple pear preserves, a fried chicken biscuit, or even a simple egg sandwich biscuit s
