Tatsu Dallas
Japanese, Sushi · ★ Michelin
$$$$
With just 10 counter seats, the greatest challenge is securing a reservation at this sushi restaurant within the renovated Continental Gin Building – but perseverance will be rewarded because this is the genuine article. The omakase contains around 14 pieces and follows the edomae tradition, so expect fish that gets steadily stronger in flavor as dinner progresses. You might start with Alaskan sockeye salmon, followed by Spanish tuna and delicious uni from Hokkaido and end with eel from Maine. The rice is also from Hokkaido and Chef Tatsuya Sekiguchi’s deft, practiced movements ensure each pie

Mamani
French Contemporary · ★ Michelin
$$$$
With this glitzy, well-appointed hotspot, Chef Christophe De Lellis brings an impressive pedigree to Dallas, having led the kitchen at Vegas’s Restaurant Joël Robuchon for nearly a decade. The bistronomie-style menu of elevated simple plates is offered à la carte, though the prices are still nothing to sniff at. Diners looking to indulge will get their money’s worth, however: top-drawer ingredients, faultless technique and world-class sauces are evident throughout. Shareable portions like Dover sole with brown butter or veal “Cordon Bleu” (served with Robuchon’s signature butter-laden pommes p

Monarch
Italian-American
$$$$
Monarch is a destination for celebratory dining, set high above the city with sweeping views from its perch inside The National. The expansive room and polished setting encourage a dress-up occasion. The menu spans Italian-leaning pastas, wood-fired meats and premium seafood. Handmade pastas are generously portioned and reliably prepared, while dishes from the hearth remain a focal point. Seafood and steaks round out the offering, and the extensive wine list features a broad, international selection.

Sushi Kozy
Japanese
$$$$
More elegant than cozy, this omakase-only spot from Chef Paul Ko offers a contemporary blend of kaiseki and sushi in a stylishly modern setting. The spacious room features an assortment of tables, but seats at the cypress wood counter are preferred for the optimal experience. The meal begins with composed bites featuring international flavors, like a crisp phyllo pastry of duck confit, maple and pistachio, or a kombu-cured sea bass crudo paired with tarragon, yuzu kosho and apple. The assortment of nigiri is largely distinguished by subtlety, as in kanpachi topped with a shiso relish, or tende

Tei-An
Japanese, Soba
$$$$
The Arts District and Tei-An are a perfect fit, as this Japanese restaurant provides an elegant and cultured experience in an aesthetically striking environment. Opened back in 2008, it has also played an important role in nurturing the city’s love affair with Japanese cuisine. The menu is varied and extensive, allowing diners to decide their own level of expense and experimentation. There’s everything from tonkatsu to tempura, as well as dishes like grilled freshwater eel (which comes with its crisped spine as you’d get in Japan), but its house-made soba and udon noodles—served cold or hot—ar

Crown Block
American Contemporary, Meats and Seafood
$$$$
Set atop Reunion Tower, this large circular restaurant makes the most of its stunning views with floor-to-ceiling windows, and with a bit of luck you’ll be seated in the right area to see the sun set. To complement the sophisticated setting, a dress code means your fellow diners will be looking equally sharp. “Rare Steaks, Fine Seafood” is their tagline and the menu doesn’t disappoint—along with a healthy selection of sushi there’s plenty of produce from local farms. If you do go for one of their first-rate steaks don’t miss the excellent triple-cooked fries. The restaurant opened in its curre

Fearing's
American, Regional Cuisine
$$$$
Nestled inside the luxe Ritz-Carlton, Fearing's is elegant and dramatic. The handsome look may read traditional steakhouse but this flagship restaurant from Chef Dean Fearing isn't straightforward. Instead, the American menu with clear Southwestern influences is both complex and composed with buffalo and antelope along with classic-leaning filets. The dishes are surprising, offering bold flavors and new takes on the tried-and-true. Case in point? Their Lone Star mosaic, Fearing's take on carpaccio with tuna, wagyu beef, salmon, and barbecued eel composing a vivid plate resembling stained glass
