Dining

La Bastide by Andrea Calstier

French · ★ Michelin

$$$$

Head to this modern farmhouse in Westchester where a soothing design perfectly complements sweeping views of the surrounding pastoral landscape. Chef Andrea Calstier and General Manager Elena Oliver bring warmth and polish to an intimate dining room with only a handful of tables, all centered around a tasting menu deeply inspired by the south of France and the chef’s upbringing in Marseille. The cooking blends contemporary technique with Provençal soul, whether in a delicate socca topped with chickpeas and preserved lemon, or a refined interpretation of bouillabaisse rich with saffron and seaf

Cenadou

French

$$$$

Named after the Provençal word for “dining room,” Cenadou is warm and welcoming with crisp white walls, dark wood tables and royal blue chairs. Large windows line the room, framing views of the lush greenery just outside. In fact, this North Salem address is home to two enticing spots, with sibling La Bastide located one level down. Expect French bistro classics with a modern, Provence-inspired update, as in poached vegetables with a warm aioli emulsion or rack of lamb over a smoked eggplant purée with olive tapenade, lamb jus and herb oil. Even dessert offers a twist on tradition with baba au

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, while the cooking remains simple, seasonal and very rooted in ingredient quality. A hearty clam chowder packed with fresh shellfish, potatoes and bacon highlights the kitchen’s restraint, and a lobster roll filled with generous chunks of sweet claw and tail meat wisely keeps the focus o

Apropos Restaurant at The Abbey Inn

American, Contemporary

$$$$

The Sisters of Saint Mary's certainly didn't eat like this, but if you take a one-hour train ride from Grand Central to Peekskill's Apropros Restaurant at The Abbey Inn, you will. This 120-year-old abbey perched high above the Hudson River has been painstakingly restored and transformed into a lovely inn and restaurant. The grounds, and the views, are worth the trip alone but the wine cellar boasting an impressive collection and the farm-to-table kitchen are equally rewarding. The menu leans traditional, with dishes ranging from rich lamb ragù atop tangles of thick pappardelle to grilled petit
