Guillou Campagne
Classic French · ★ Michelin
€€€€
Fans of Gallic fare adore Guillou Campagne. This family-run restaurant was for many years in the hands of Pierrick Guillou and the chefs he trained continue to pay tribute to his legacy on a daily basis. Lysianne and Katell, his widow and daughter, also continue to uphold the family tradition of hospitality in this old stone edifice flanked by an exquisite garden terrace. Authenticity and intensity are the watchwords of Guillou Campagne, so you can expect lashings of cream and butter and ingredients such as foie gras and scallops. The focus is primarily on wholesome, hearty flavours, rather th

Crispy grey shrimps with a frothy espuma of cod and samphire: the signature appetiser illustrates the calibre of the experience you can expect in this former apothecary, which sports an authentic herringbone parquet floor and warm fabrics strewn in subtle industrial references. We won’t say more as chef Mathieu Van Wetteren voluntarily preserves the mystery, as is the case of his surprise menu. With a painstaking eye for detail, his creative streak refrains from falling into the trap of overworking his recipes and aims more for simplicity and purity, with the occasional Japanese accent. Eminently in tune with his region, Clément Petitjean is a proud ambassador of his province of Luxemburg and also of Gaume. This is illustrated by the extremely close ties he has forged with local producers. The view of the meadows and the natural slant of the contemporary interior incite the diner to commune with nature, particularly beneath the fine-meshed cloud structures hanging from the ceiling. A fire burning in the hearth further adds to the friendly, home-from-home vibe in the lounge. Make your pick from the sommelier’s splendid cocktail trolley, before sampling Petitjean’s felicitous c

La cucina italiana has no secrets for Roberti Fani. After earning a Michelin star in his homeland, he has put down his roots in the Luxembourg village of Roeser, where he demonstrates how far his cuisine has evolved. On the ground-floor of a rather ordinary residential complex, he has opened a snug, stylish establishment, in the company of a seamless professional front-of-house team and a first-rate sommelier. Chef Fani is a seasoned chef who deploys his immense know-how apparently effortlessly in the kitchen, while his brigade of young chefs adds their own creative spin. You might taste class

Japanese · ★ Michelin

Ryôdô embodies Japan’s legendary respectful lifestyle in the heart of Luxemburg’s suburbs. The luminous interior and light wooden furnishings are suitably minimalist and the food is exquisitely served by women attired in kimonos who have a knack for setting you at your ease. It is well worth savouring this fervent admiration of tradition. The lunchtime score is either à la carte or a choice of kaiseki and bento menus, while in the evening, you can choose between Sushi, Vegan or Tasting menus. Chef Ryôdô Kajiwara delicately expresses the full gamut of Japanese subtlety, calling upon the pure-br

Le Lys

Take a break from the frantic pace of daily life and immerse yourself in the classically appointed Le Lys, dripping in romanticism. The restaurant is established in the historic Villa Pétrusse Hotel, built in 1880 and restored from top to toe. You have a choice of dining rooms, among which the extravagant Renaissance Marie-Thérèse salon whose huge mirrors and frescoes are the epitome of luxury and historic cachet. Chef Kim De Dood has returned to his roots to blend Luxembourg cuisine with big-boned Asian overtones in a superlative venue. Expect to sample a repertory that reveals the chef’s hig

This trendy brasserie, done up in wood and other natural materials, is in perfect osmosis with the surrounding Dudelange forest. It is run by a veteran who takes the time to listen to his guests. Jean-Charles Albert’s pared-back cuisine is subtle, often surprising but never disconcerting. He may marry creamy risotto, truffles and a skate wing fritter or jazz up steak tartare with Thai or oriental notes, all the while respecting their intrinsic flavours. Something of a culinary landmark in the region.

Renato Favaro pays tribute to his roots in this buzzy trattoria depicted by a smart urban vibe and a sprinkling of amusing decorative details (like a bumper of the iconic cinquecento car). Old school family favourites set the culinary scene including pizzoccheri della valtellina and fettuccine al ragu, unless you wouldn’t rather sample paccheri al dente in a rich tomato sauce enhanced by shitake mushrooms, parsley, fennel-laced sausage and lashings of parmesan? Free of fancy frills, the focus is on authentic flavours and familiar family favourites. The cherry on the cake is chef Favaro’s fun-l
