Thorsten Bender's creative cuisine certainly explains the popularity of this little restaurant nestled on a quiet residential street. The chef's distinctive style shines through in his technically accomplished, clearly structured dishes, into which he judiciously weaves Asian flavours. The power and intensity of the flavours are as impressive as the degree of finesse and refreshing notes. Top-notch ingredients take centre stage – think Icelandic ikejime char confit in ox marrow fat with roasted leek, leek ash, white Alba truffle and verjus sauce. The upscale interior has a chic, modern feel. S

Hotel Erbprinz is definitely something of an institution in the Karlsruhe area – and not only for the many conference participants who stay here. This is a foodie hotspot that prides itself on its stylish interior and excellent cuisine – the domain of Ralph Knebel and team. They cook classic dishes that draw on international influences, with an emphasis on seasonal produce. The quality of the ingredients is outstanding. There is a set menu comprising five to seven courses that can also be ordered à la carte. Incidentally, Ralph Knebel's wife, Jasmina, is also on board, producing fabulous desse

With this lovely bistro, Thorsten Bender offers an alternative to sein, his restaurant right next door. The place has a stylish and lively feel; the terrace in the courtyard makes for an irresistibly romantic setting in summer. The commitment that the owners bring to their work is palpable – both in the delicious regional cuisine, which includes classic and modern dishes, and the inviting and pleasingly laid-back service under the direction of the lady of the house. Good food is accompanied by wines at prices that won't break the bank. At lunch, the reasonably priced set menu draws a crowd. Ti

This pretty restaurant proposes a surprise menu in a choice of three formats: the four-course "Einblick" ("Insight"), the five-course "Dialog" ("Dialogue") and the six-course "Manifest" ("Manifesto"). The seasonal cuisine is modern, making use of regional and international ingredients. The resulting dishes include combinations such as "veal, asparagus, couscous, ajvar, BBQ" and "Spanish carabinero prawn, beetroot, mustard, vermouth". A vegan version of the menu is also available. You can opt for wine pairings or house-made alcohol-free alternatives. The friendly, accommodating service with its

At this fine addition to Karlsruhe's culinary scene, chef-patron Mario Aliberti fuses Italian cuisine with Asian influences. An appealing range of dishes is available: Lunchtime features reasonably priced set menus, plus a small selection from the evening menu. At dinnertime, there is a fine dining menu, an Italian menu and a sharing menu, as well as an extensive à la carte selection. Octopus cooked in black beer with ponzu beurre blanc and black garlic is a house classic. It is worth perusing the well-stocked wine list, too. The inviting modern interior exudes a distinctly loungey feel. In su

Founded in 1984, this family-run establishment located close to the Staatstheater (hence the name) is now run by the second generation, with Daniele di Sario taking the helm several years ago. He delivers classic Italian and French-style cuisine that is in keeping with the zeitgeist: The spaghetti carbonara, turbot with Champagne sauce or lemon dessert ("Kreation von der Zitrone") are shining examples. In keeping with the name of the restaurant, the menu is divided into different sections: Act 1, Intermezzo, Act 2 and Epilogue. Veteran chef Giovanni likes to get in on the action front of house

This townhouse, built in 1826, is full of charm: inside you sit in a cosy, traditional wood-panelled decor, while the charming courtyard beckons outside. And in addition they take really friendly care of you. The kitchen turns out dishes that are adapted to the seasons and really tasty. At lunchtime you choose from a smaller menu.

This restaurant is set in a spruce townhouse centrally located close to Marktplatz. It is hardly surprising that there are so many regulars, given the very pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. The cuisine is seasonal and can be enjoyed as a set menu or ordered à la carte. By prior arrangement, you can also make reservations for lunch and at weekends.
