Yayo Daporta

Creative · ★ Michelin

€€€

For those keen to experience the flavours of the Atlantic to the full, it’s hard to find a better place than this. Here, chef Yayo Daporta describes his cuisine as “based on common sense and the best possible taste”. What is certain is that there’s much more than this to his cuisine, which reinterprets Galician cooking, bringing it up to date in a way that takes it to another level. The sea takes pride of place with mussels, cockles, barnacles, seaweed and simply cooked razor clams all featuring in this attractive restaurant occupying a stone building that was once a royal hospital dating back

A Taberna do Trasno

Traditional Cuisine, Fusion · Bib

€€

This centrally located restaurant with a modern interior is an unexpected surprise, bringing back to life a delightful stone house over two centuries old. The owner-chef offers guests a varied à la carte on which traditional recipes stand alongside more modern dishes with hints of fusion, a few seafood options, plus plenty of grilled specialities cooked over a wood fire. This is complemented by an 8-course tasting menu that needs to be ordered ahead of time. Our recommendations include grilled octopus with kimchi, parmentier and Ibarra chilli peppers, and the superb grilled sea bass, designed

O Loxe Mareiro

Seafood, Regional Cuisine

€€€

Overlooking the Arousa estuary, and the curious sticks or poles that mark the cultivation parks where the famous Carril clams grow, O Loxe Mareiro has recovered an old traditional seafood restaurant. In this simple restaurant with a rustic-present-day atmosphere, which aside from the dining room has a charming terrace and a table in the kitchen, the proposal is totally focused on seafood products, always with a great deal of honesty and under the umbrella of both their small menu and a complete tasting menu (Arousa).

D'Leria

Contemporary, Galician

€€

In a traditional fishing community such as this one, famous for the quality of its clams, the quality of ingredients always takes centre stage. This simple family-run restaurant, which has breathed new life into a former bar, is run by a couple – two chefs with a focus on contemporary, seasonal cooking inspired by the sea. This is showcased on a concise à la carte and a tasting menu option (“where the sea takes me”). We particularly enjoyed the black monkfish with a pepitoria sauce.

Beiramar

Seafood

€€

A welcoming and intimate restaurant with a longstanding family tradition, plus an attractive lobster tank in the dining room itself. In this pleasant eatery, strategically located opposite the port at O Grove, enjoy the full flavour of the sea through options such as shellfish priced individually and by weight, a few savoury rice dishes, and fresh fish of the day of the very highest quality.

D'Berto

Seafood, Galician

€€€

At D’Berto, you’ll experience the full potential and expression of the local estuary’s produce. For those for whom scale is of little importance, this is definitely the place, where you can enjoy a truly surprising array of fish and seafood accompanied by excellent service. Perfectly cooked grilled dishes and stews are more important here than technique, though the latter is certainly not lacking. Options include an array of shellfish and several classic dishes such as the pan-fried lobster and the spider crab. Don't miss out on seasonal cockles!
