Nothing leaves the kitchen that chef Lode De Roover has not preened to perfection. From the surgically sliced vegetables to the spot-on cooking times and inspired plating, this fan of outstanding classical produce leaves nothing to chance, without forgoing the opportunity to treat himself to the odd creative and unexpected original touch. His signatures include subtle barbecued langoustine with lemongrass oil, lemon zest and a whey foam laced with shellfish jus or a medium rare fillet of Barbary duck flanked with a mind-blowingly rich jus and a crisp springtime medley of asparagus and broad be

Classy, stylish, attention to detail, flavoursome – words fail us to describe Sense. The experience of veteran chef Michiel De Bruyn and the charm of your hostess, Frederika Vandeleur, are devoted to satisfying the expectations of their discerning diners. The restaurant’s pared down elegance and muted vibe provide the backdrop to a seamless performance without forgetting unusual food-wine pairings that are definitely worth writing home about. Chef Michiel’s minimalist approach seeks to enhance the ingredient: Zeebrugge sole, Guilvinec langoustine, frog’s legs from Dombes - only the best gets o

Charismatic Peter Van den Driesschen elegantly and effortlessly welcomes guests, thus setting the tone as he ushers you into a smart, fashionably pared-back dining room, bathed in light and hung with works of art, while overlooking a manicured garden. And that is only the beginning! Kelderman’s front-of-house team bends over backwards to make sure you lack for nothing as they spoil you rotten. Seafood enjoys the lead roles here, but meat-lovers needn’t fret as there is something for everyone. The chef allows the pure, unadulterated flavours of ingredients to shout their name rather than indulg

The narrow lane leading to this buzzy eatery, near the Grand-Place of Dendermonde, would be quite at home on a historical movie set. Willem Vervaet once again demonstrates his love of live fire cooking and his creative flair. First, he grills scallops, before pairing them with raw celeriac seasoned with parsley and capers, and then adding a final flourish by way of a divine baked apple sauce. This chef enchants and surprises with nuances of grilled fruit and veggies. The menu is a treasure trove of playful combinations that never cease to intrigue and delight.

Stefaan, chef and sommelier, is an enthusiastic foodie and wine connoisseur. He regularly scours eastern Europe to enrich his wine list. The many regulars to his friendly, welcoming establishment applaud the wine formula which reveals the full scope of his creativity. Each dish is a consummate blend of character and delicacy with legible ingredients such as duck’s liver and beetroot, depicted in fresh, subtle nuances.

Chef Van Der Bruggen combines creativity with classical training, as his spit-roast veal sweetbread or his seabass in a salt crust demonstrate. High precision cooking that allows the top-notch ingredients to shout their name. The set and lunch menus remain a hit with his faithful regulars, who make a beeline for the lovely terrace. A solid bet every time!

The remarkable maturing room and attractive open wine cellar set the scene for chef Hanselaer’s two overriding passions. Son of a cattle breeder, Blanc Bleu Belge beef takes pride of place on the menu, which also showcases the strength and flavour of other fine ingredients. The resourceful chef is never short of creativity, demonstrated by his modern take on Belgian endive baked in ham and cheese and while his carne cuisine occasionally reaches the realm of high-flying, it is never OTT. The cheese and dessert trolley in particular is spectacular! A must if you plan on touring the Lake Donk are

This hip bistro never fails to appeal. Trendy lighting, a vintage wood-burning stove and a full view of the chefs working in their flame-licked open kitchen. Ellen graciously and seamlessly supervises the front of house. A patriotic lineup of Flemish classics, complete with Asian twists and Mediterranean flair, are blended into enticing set menus. Belgian staples such as eel have no secrets for the consummate chefs, who serve this family favourite in a sabayon of green herbs with heaps of piping hot crunchy fries. Or how about a fillet of halibut with a frothy velvety bearnaise sauce, nobashi
